About the Book

In nearly all cultures, women are maligned for their hunger, sexuality, temperament, age, ambition, anger, self-preservation, and nonconforming sexual and gender identities. How can we reconceive the narrative? The Oracle of the Monstrous Feminine reinterprets feminine and genderqueer monsters from ancient cultures, the Victorian era, and the modern world through a critical theory lens. The book describes 54 demons, witches, creatures, vampires, and monstrous hybrids from myth, legend, literature, and history. While the book was designed to honor women and gender-nonconforming individuals, we hope it reaches and inspires a gender-inclusive audience and serves as a tool for radical forgiveness and embodiment.
